I grew up in the backstreets of Cape Town, where life felt difficult — and often challenging.
As a child, I would watch other kids from more affluent neighborhoods go on exciting holidays, get the latest toys, or take part in activities I could only dream of.
It wasn’t jealousy that I felt — it was a longing.
A longing to experience those same moments of joy, belonging, and pride.
Raised by my grandmother, Hajiera, I understood early on the meaning of sacrifice.
My granny worked tirelessly to provide for us, but there was never enough left over for “extras.”
As I grew older, I realized something important: hard work and achievement deserve to be celebrated, regardless of a family’s financial situation.
That’s when the seed for ‘Farouk Timm Funds Dreams’ was planted.
Today, this mission is my way of giving back — to ensure that children like I once was get the recognition they deserve.
Whether it’s a room makeover for a hardworking student, a laptop for a budding young scientist, or even school fees for a future leader.
I want to make sure every child knows their effort matters.
Through the generosity of donors, the support of businesses, and even creative income streams like our online shop, we’re turning small dreams into unforgettable realities — one child at a time.
This is more than a charity.
