My Story

I grew up in the backstreets of Cape Town, where life was often challenging. I wasn’t raised by my parents but by my grandmother, a woman of immense strength. She didn’t have much to give beyond a roof over my head and food on the table, but what she offered was far more valuable — stability, guidance, and unconditional love. She was my rock, my strength, and my guardian. The man I am today is because of her.

As a child, I would watch other kids from more affluent neighborhoods go on holidays, get the latest toys, and take part in activities I could only dream of. I didn’t feel envy — I felt longing. A longing to experience joy, pride, and the feeling of being celebrated.

Even when I worked hard and achieved good results at school, we couldn’t afford much beyond a warm smile or a proud hug from my granny. Those moments meant everything to me — yet deep down, I often wondered how it would feel to have my hard work recognized in a bigger way.

Years later, I came to realize something powerful: achievement deserves recognition, no matter a child’s financial background. That belief became the foundation of Farouk Timm Funds Dreams — a project born not just from my story, but in honor of the woman who raised me and the countless children like me still chasing hope.

Today, this mission exists to make sure every child who works hard gets the celebration they deserve.

Through creative income from our online initiatives, we’re turning small dreams into lasting memories — one child at a time.
